My love story with Lara began long ago...
It was during fall 1997, just before the french release of Tomb Raider II, that I decided to start
making a sculpture of a Lara Croft figurine. That would be the beginning of about 250 hours of
modeling, sculpting, molding and painting.
'Want to know how I did it?
On the pictures
you have seen, the figurine is cast in polyester resin, painted
with acrylic colors. The original has been modeled and sculpted
by my patient little hands with 'Super Sculpey', a heat hardening
modeling paste. (by the way, if anybody knows where I can find some,
I'd be happy to know it, as this kind of material is pretty hard
to find here in France)
As her complex shapes (you
do know what I mean) do not allow a one piece mold to be done,
I had to separate the arms, the braid, the gear...on the original
work, a bit like with the commercial figurines (i.e. Aliens, Terminators...)
that are sold in kits.
Once each part is cast, Lara is assembled and painted.
The model is 26cm high (about 10").
This is how I proceeded, in a few words, if you wish to know more about it,
write to me!
(I will publish more info if I see that enough people are curious about this stuff)
